Face-aim error is the difference between where a golfer believes the clubface is pointing and where it is actually pointing at impact. On putts it is the single biggest driver of starting direction: a face open or closed by even a degree sends the ball offline before path or speed has any say. It is measured with alignment gates, laser aids or putting sensors, and it explains many of the "good stroke, wrong result" misses inside six feet.
